In the summers of 1983 and 1984, Judi served as a seasonal Wildland Firefighter for the California Department of Forestry. Judi was hired by the City of Davis in 1985 where she was promoted to Captain in 1992.

Judi’s union experience with Local 3494, included serving as a member of their Public Education Committee and serving in the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. She was involved with various projects throughout her career including serving as the department’s Wildland Coordinator and Protective Clothing Coordinator.

Judi is a member of Cal-JAC’s Written Test Advisory Committee which develops the exams given by FCTC, is an instructor for FCTC’s Written Test Preparatory classes, and is a CPAT proctor at FCTC Sacramento and FCTC Livermore. A member of Cal-JAC’s Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service since its inception in 2005, Judi is dedicated to recruiting and mentoring women seeking a career in the fire service.

Would-be firefighters will get an up-close look at what it takes to become a first responder later this summer, when the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC) hosts its annual Career Expos.
