Wendy Dowdy

Wendy Dowdy is an engineer with the San Diego Federal Fire Department and is a member of Federal Firefighters, San Diego, Local F-33.

In 2005, CFFJAC Chair Dan Terry appointed Wendy to the CFFJAC's Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service.

Wendy began her career as a firefighter in the United States Navy in 1984. Upon receiving her honorable discharge in 1988, she was hired as a firefighter for the San Diego Federal Fire Department. Since she was hired, she has also served as a fire inspector and fire investigator in fire prevention for six years. She returned to fire suppression, where her other responsibilities included hazardous materials technician. Wendy was promoted to engineer in June 2006.

Wendy has earned Department of Defense Certificates from Firefighter I through Fire Officer II. She has been a CPR instructor for over 15 years and serves as the CPR coordinator for her department. She also teaches CPR within the community to various organizations, including the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Since October 2006, Wendy also currently serves as a proctor at the CFFJAC's CPAT Center in Orange.

Wendy's hobbies include golfing, mountain biking and jogging and she also enjoys spending time with her college-age son, Ty.
