Emily Lo
Emily Lo is a captain for the City of Davis Fire Department and serves as treasurer for Davis Professional Firefighters Association, Local 3494.
In 2005, CFFJAC Chair Dan Terry appointed Emily as co-chair of the CFFJAC's Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service.
Emily was born in Taiwan in 1969. Her family emigrated to the U.S. in 1981. After high school, Emily attended a local junior college, not sure what she wanted to do with her life. Emily says the idea of being a firefighter was something she had never thought of attempting. Having said that, a friend who was a City of Vacaville firefighter told her about the fire academy and encouraged her to look into it. Emily followed her friend's suggestion and the rest is history.
After attending Solano Community College Fire Academy, Emily was hired by the City of Fairfield Fire Department in 1990. A year and a half later, she moved on to the City of Davis Fire Department, where she promoted to fire captain in 2002.
Emily is a proctor at the CFFJAC's Candidate Physical Ability Testing (CPAT) Centers, helping firefighter candidates prepare for the physical ability test and mentoring them to begin their careers in the fire service.
Emily earned an Associate of Science degree in Fire Technology from American River College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Service Management from CSU Sacramento.
When Emily is not busy working at the firehouse, attending various union functions, working for the CFFJAC or trying to stay healthy, Emily and her husband Rob have their hands full with the newest addition and the greatest joy of her life: their son Austin and daughter Lola.
Having been in the fire service for over 19 years, Emily still looks forward to coming to work every shift. She says she counts her blessings everyday for the job she has, the union she belongs to and the group of people she works with.
