Recruitment Tools for Fire Departments
The fire service is in the midst of a generational sea change, as Vietnam-era firefighters retire and are replaced by new recruits. The profession itself has also become more sophisticated, requiring that new recruits come into firefighting with more education and a broader array of skills.
In addition, it has been shown that there is a decline in the number of female applicants in the fire service.
The result is that fire departments are increasingly challenged to draw higher-quality firefighter candidates from a steadily shrinking applicant pool.
The recruitment tools provided on this website are designed to help departments build a broader pool of qualified applicants, especially among young women.
The CFFJAC's Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service created these recruitment tools as part of its mission to identify qualified women, who will be successful in the fire service, by targeting appropriate facilities and providing the necessary materials needed to accomplish this goal.
