Few understand more about breaking down barriers than the more than 200 women who attended the "Women Building and Protecting California" conference in Sacramento. Co-sponsored by California Professional Firefighters and the State Building and Construction Trades, the fifth annual conference drew more than 200 female firefighters, carpenters, electricians, and pipefitters gathered in support of women in non-traditional roles, and featured presentations by CFFJAC's Women's Commission.

A huge untapped resource of committed, educated, capable and passionate professionals stands at the doorway to the future of the fire service in California. The California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee is looking to open that door. This week, the CFFJAC unveiled a first-of-its-kind statewide recruitment campaign aimed at building a new generation of women firefighters.
 

The next generation of California firefighters will be better equipped than ever before to meet the intense physical demands of their profession, thanks to a brand new state-of-the-art physical ability testing center in Dublin which hosted media and fire service guests Wednesday.

The WIA “Terrorism Consequence Management” (TCM) grant is complete, and the accomplishments under the grant are remarkable.

Women Building & Protecting California Conference Rocks Sacramento!  

The California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC) and its sponsors – California Professional Firefighters and the Office of the State Fire Marshall – are pleased to announce the success of the 4th Annual Statewide Conference for Women in the Trades and Fire Service.

Since they officially opened the doors last May, the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Testing Center – located in the City of Orange – has watched over 800 aspiring firefighter candidates take the CPAT physical challenge! In fact, in the month of December alone, 1,200 individuals have signed up to see if they’ve got what it takes to make it out there on the front line.
 

After a four-month, nationwide search, the City of Berkeley announced the hiring of its first female fire chief, Debra Pryor. Garnering support from civic leaders, the community, and Berkeley Fire Fighters Association Local 1227, Chief Pryor will formally take over the Department’s top post mid-December.

Displaced permanent career state and local firefighters are now eligible to be placed on the statewide hiring list managed by the CFFJAC. AB1929, sponsored by CPF, authored by assemblymember Steve Samuelian and signed by Governor Schwarzenegger authorized these additions in response to the severe budget actions being taken at the state and local level. 

On July 8th, the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC) hosted an “Open House” to showcase its new firefighter candidate testing center in the city of Orange. Over 100 fire chiefs, labor union leaders, training officers, human resource personnel and fitness trainers attended the event to visit the CFFJAC’s new site, and to learn more about how this new site will benefit fire departments and the fire service, in general
