CFFJAC Hosts Workshop For Apprenticeship Training Officers

Nineteen people got the tools they need to manage their department's apprenticeship program after attending the CFFJAC's biannual Training Officers Workshop on Thursday, October 23rd.

Since April 2007, the CFFJAC has hosted these day-long meetings at its headquarters to help training officers and instructors of record coordinate their apprenticeship programs. Not only do participants get assistance with the bare essentials including how to fill out the necessary paperwork and report apprenticeship hours, but they also meet CFFJAC staff and receive an introduction to all that the JAC does.

Attendees visited from participating JAC departments across the state. Some were from departments that were brand new to apprenticeship. Others were more familiar, but appreciated the walk-through.

The day's activities included staff introductions, a screening of the CFFJAC 25th anniversary video and question and answer time. Staff also discussed apprenticeship program features including veterans' benefits, electronic reporting of apprenticeship hours and reimbursement. The day ended with a brief tour of other organizations in the building including Firefighters Print & Design and FireStar Productions.

"These workshops fill up quickly," said Yvonne de la Peña, CFFJAC program director. "They're a wonderful way for training officers to understand what their role is and to get the resources that they need."

The next Training Officers Workshop is set for next spring.
