Would-be California firefighters converged on the CPAT firefighter testing centers in Orange and Dublin for the second annual California Firefighter Recruitment Fairs. Sponsored by the CFFJAC’s Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service, the one-day job fairs gave candidates an “up close and personal” look at what it takes to be a first responder … a rewarding, but demanding profession. 

For 25 years, the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC) has remained steadfast in its mission to ensure that California’s first responders receive the highest quality of education and training. Sponsored by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and California Professional Firefighters, the mounting success of the CFFJAC and its firefighter training and education programs is due in large part to the collaborative effort of fire department management and local union labor representatives.

The CFFJAC is grateful to the many sponsors who have helped make our annual Memorial Golf Tournament a big success in 2007. 

California's first responders will be better prepared to meet the challenges of domestic terrorism thanks to legislation signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.  AB 587, authored by Assemblywoman Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach), earmarks $2.5 million for firefighter anti-terrorism training.

More than two hundred women and men tried took a step toward a career in the fire service this past weekend at the first-ever California Firefighter Recruitment Fair, presented by the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC).  Sponsored by the CFFJAC's Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service, the one-day session at the CPAT Testing Center in Orange offered candidates an "up close and personal" look at what it takes to be a first responder ... a rewarding, but demanding profession.

Nearly 500 would-be firefighters "answered the call" at the CFFJAC's first-ever California Firefighter Recruitment Fairs. Held on two successive Saturdays, the fairs brought prospective firefighters face-to-face with recruiters from more than three-dozen fire departments from throughout the state.

For over 25 years, the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee has proudly committed itself to provide and support equal opportunity programs within the fire service. Recruiting and retaining qualified and motivated firefighter candidates is a top priority of the CFFJAC to create a more diverse fire service in efforts to reflect the communities in which they serve.  Building on to this objective, CFFJAC Chair Dan Terry created the Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service.

Here in California, the threat of wild fire is an inherent risk to life and property - just as tornadoes are in the Midwest and hurricanes are in the Southeast. As temperature records hit triple digits in some parts our state, the dry brush that lends to the landscape of many homes in rural neighborhoods provides the ideal fuel to ignite a high-intense wild fire.
