Located in Sonoma County, the Santa Rosa Fire Department currently has nine fire stations and 133 employees, who serve the population of 170,000. In 2008, the Santa Rosa Fire Department responded to over 19,000 emergency incidents. The majority of these calls, approximately 64 percent, were of an emergency medical nature.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department was established on February 12, 1861 as a volunteer organization but transitioned to a paid organization in 1894, then with a population of 5,500.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department has been affiliated with the CFFJAC program since 2007 and its personnel are proudly represented by Santa Rosa Firefighters, Local #1401.

In the city of Santa Rosa, the Santa Rosa Fire Department scheduled a wildland training burn to teach firefighter safety and how to control wildland fires in different situations.
